I guess I should say something here that these links will take you off of my site, and that any views, opinions, or advice you find there might be very different from mine and The Bike Karma Bicycle and Cycling Stories Podcast. Having said that, I hope your interest in clicking on any of them leads you to some shared positive human interactions through a shared love of the bicycle.

Bike Dr. Derek is an inspirational young man. While living with autism, epilepsy, and some difficulty speaking, he passionately pursues his interest in bikes. Despite our different circumstances, Derek and I both share a mutual fascination for bicycles and bicycle repair. Derek spoke with the aid of computer software in our segment, and gave some insights into his unique perspective. Along with team Derek, he has started a business in Gainesville Florida repairing bicycles.

Judy Folkenberg and Teddy Boy Sinclair came on the show to walk us through the process of deciding to ride with a bike with your cat and how to make that happen safely and enjoyably.
They both love reading and books.

Calvin Jones, from the Park Tool Company will be in episode 68. He is a world class bicycle mechanic as well as an amazing teacher. His videos on how bikes work and how to repair bikes are the go-to source for so many because of their thoughtfulness and clarity. (Thanks for the Clavin for the Photos).

Katie Heidsiek from the Connecticut Historical Society talked about going from being a person with a bike to seeing herself as a cyclists as well as her part in creating THE BICYCLE GAME Exhibit.

Master of Multitasking. In episode 73, he talked about painting and riding a bicycle at the same time.

Joe Kurmaskie wrote a book I was reluctant to read at first, but when I finally did I loved it! I didn’t get the moniker “Metal Cowboy” and was a little off-put because I wasn’t into westerns. But then I realized it was just a nickname and that he was a fascinating adventure cyclist and a great writer to boot. He was on talking about both Robin Williams and again to help shine the light on Evelyn Hamilton heroic bike racer turned cycling nazi fighter during WWII.
If you like my show, you’ll dig his books.

Darrell Lewis cycles around Okinawa Japan and told us about such unexpected things as watching out for crabs crawling in the road. Hear him in episode 40.

Allison Pfeffer,Nurse, Birdwatcher, and Cyclist
Shared a story about birdwatching, relationships, and bicycles in Episode 77.

She was nice enough to share her journey when we met a the NAHBS 2017 in Hartford, CT (Was my first time with an official press pass.

Maria Schur aka The Bicycle Kitty
Link to Her Bicycle Kitty Blog
She was on talking about journaling all her flat tires.

Fred Thomas
https://www.theframeandwheel.com/
Since meeting Fred at a freezing cold cyclocross event years ago, he has been a guest, storyteller, friend, and HUGE supporter of the show. Please thank him by giving both The Frame and Wheel and A-D Bikes Redux a follow on Social Media. I was even on his show ALL THINGS BIKE. Here is the link to his channel… https://www.youtube.com/c/RideableTV

Eben Weiss aka The Bike Snob NYC is the author who ushered in the modern age of bicycle essays. His best selling book Bike Snob reintroduced the world to the wide tapestry of different bicycle lovers and riders out there as social media was starting to explode. His is a journalist, blogger, and author among other things. (Photo Credit Hist Brother Elliot Weiss.)

Mike Wolfe from Antique Archeology and American Pickers was in episode 34. I’ve been a fan since season 1 of Pickers, but I was blown away by the sheer volume of knowledge in his head about both modern and antique bicycles. He was very generous with his time and genuinely nice. His was my first big celebrity from my interview wishlist.
Organizations / Groups:

Bici Co is Hartford Connecticut’s Non-Profit Community Bike Shop. After all the Bike shops in this capital city aged out and closed down, the Center for Latino Progress stepped up to ensure this vital mode of transportation was supported. They do tune ups, sell bikes, and act as a hub and Ally for the regions Bicycle Community.

The Bike Index is the bunch of heroes that help register and prevent bikes from being stolen. They also help to find them and get them back to their owners after they’ve been stolen. These folks, their network & allies are our best shot against the raging bicycle crime epidemic.

Bike New London A Community Bicycle Shop run by Rob Bareiss

Bike Walk Wethersfield
A group I helped to co-found with Kevin Sullivan, Rob O’Connor, and others.

Connecticut Historical Society– Our State Historical Society in CT USA is very bike friendly. They are housed in the former mansion of Curtis Veeder inventor of the Veeder Cyclometer (bicycle odometer). Hartford CT

WHS Bicycle Club
FB https://www.facebook.com/whsbicycleclub/
IG https://www.instagram.com/whsbicycleclub/
The mission of the Wethersfield High School Bike Club is to support all positive bicycle and cycling activities in our greater school community and region. I’m the advisor, and you. can get the cool dino sticker too when you ask for BK stickers.
Bike Karma Staff:

Mr. Munchnick – Icon / Bike Workshop Cat
He’s the cat from the original logo and the MUSE of the bike karma podcast. His perks include unlimited organic catnip (dried in winter, fresh in other 3 seasons), and prestige.

Smackems – Icon / Bike Workshop Cat
She is the most reliable shop companion, always around whenever I am wrenching. Quick to suggest I should be wrenching anytime I walk through the basement. She gets the catnip perk, but also has a stash of treats under the eaves. She also loves to be pet with metal bike tools, more than hands, more than anything, we think due to excessive static in her fur. She actually has “Betty Davis Eyes”.

Falky – Bike Karma Emotional P.A. – Personal Trainer
Falky Von Mushu aka Falkor is our pandemic rescue dog from down south. He is mixed but his part catahoula gives him his amazing markings. He runs with me, goes mountain biking, some gravel grinding, and loves to cme down into the workshop. His primary show duties are as my emotional support animal after bad days we crash with a bowl of popcorn and binge old Columbo episodes together.

Nora – Retired – Chaos Checks
Nora just hangs around, though she used to be more of a bike shop dog. She often barks at shadows, wind, ghosts, and her own waking dreams while I am trying to record, thus providing me with many opportunities to practice patience. (sigh)

Waverly Brown: Marketing Consultant
How nice is it to have a DECA Award winning marketing major as a consultant for the show. Even though she is my daughter, she has greatly helped marketing efforts for the show, the Wethersfield Bicycle Festival, and the WHS Bike Club. She also designed one of the two current logos.

Anna Jane Brown: Voice Talent and Artists
As well as the voice at the start of each show, AJ has been a huge cheerleader for the show and has done a series of stylized artwork based on stories and skits. We hope to offer a calendar of her work when we get up to 12 of them. She also did the first logo design.
Elizabeth Brown – Voice Talent and Consultant
Liz did an amazing job bring the century old story of Billy’s Bicycle Triumphs to life. She also has done fill in work on sketches. and opinion pieces, but primarily keeps me in check when I almost do something really dumb.

Tarran Brown – Voice Talent, Contributor, and Post Production Consultant
While best know for his ABC Quick Check PSAs in earlier episodes, Tarran is an invaluable helper behind the scenes listening to volume levels, eq. and transitions. When my ears are burned out at a long session, he can appraise and tell me if the levels are acceptable. He has had a hand in all parts of the show, from logos to messaging.
LBS’s & Everybody Else:

A beloved but once extinct brand brought back to life and reimagined by superfan turned owner Fred Thomas. A-D Bikes
Limited free stickers of the logo are available for the asking, just DM me.

Airline Cycles (East Hampton and Colchester CT, USA) is one of those local gem bike shops that has become increasingly rare. As so many other awesome independent shops closed, folks have flocked to Airline Cycles as a Bastion representing the best attitudes of the old shops you used to love, with current competency and up to date know-how for the present and future. They have new and used bikes and are always fair. The owner Brian is a kind human being, friendly, skilled, and smart. A stedfast ally to riders in the bicycle landscape of Connecticut.

The Bicycle Cellar in Tempe Arizona is one of my favorite bike shops I’ve never been to (yet). We’ve been online friendly and sympathetic bike people for a few years. They even made me a custom bike stem tool as a gift (see pic) when I commented on one of their posts online. If they would do that for an online acquaintance, I can only imagine how well they take care of their in-person customers. Plus they carry a lot of bikes I like like that XL Surly Ghost Grappler in Mint Green.

Boeshield T-9 – I have been using Boeshield for over 15 years, when I was introduced to it. I find the paraffin film left behind great at eliminating re-rusting, and the initial “solvent” action on application great for cleaning. I won a prize pack from them, and after talking they purchased a spot for Episode 67. They sent me a bunch of free stickers to include with mine when sending out. I continue to use their products (for chains and much more), and hope to work with them again in the future.

Capo Velo might be the most prolific creator of cycling articles I know of. They were one of the first places to give Bike Karma a backlink to help folks find us. Find them on twitter @CapoVelo and at their Capo Velo web site.

A Local Bike Shop from Traverse City Michigan USA that shared a story about a customer bringing in an old Schwinn that had been in a chicken coop for 30 years wanting same day service. They got it to him the next day. https://www.einsteincycles.com/

Wheel Happy Bike Shop on Martha’s Vineyard shared some cool stories. They also serviced The Obamas bikes when they were there. https://wheelhappybicycles.github.io/

Tom Cat Bikes An LBS in Portland Oregon
Was on the show talking about bicycle theft stories as a shop owner in Portland Oregon.
